Según la revista Forbes, Gabriel Orozco es el artista mexicano más cotizado en el mercado internacional del arte contemporáneo. Su obra ha sido motivo de un sinfín de exposiciones individuales en el Museo de Arte Moderno y Museo Guggenheim de Nueva York, Museo Reina Sofía en Madrid, Museo Hirshhorn en Washington y en el Museo del Palacio de Bellas Artes en la Ciudad de México, entre otros. Es representado por la Galería Mariana Goodman de Nueva York, la Galería Kurimanzutto de la Ciudad de México y la Galería Chantal Crousel de París.
Su currículo es basto y todo gracias a su experiencia y aprendizaje académico y autodidacta a través de los años. Todo comenzó desde pequeño, cuando su padre trabajaba con David Alfaro Siqueiros lo llevaba consigo a ver cómo pintaban murales, y el pequeño Gabriel sólo escuchaba y veía todo lo que sucedía, comenzando así su acercamiento a las artes y temas políticos. En 1984 finalizó sus estudios en la ENAP, pero como todo el aprendizaje fue sumamente conservador decidió viajar a España para explorar el arte por sus propios medios. En 1986 llegó a Madrid, y entre las calles de Alcalá y Gran Vía encontró el Círculo de Bellas Artes, una entidad cultural privada que difunde las principales manifestaciones artísticas, y la sede es actualmente un edificio declarado Monumento Histórico Artístico Nacional. Durante esta primera etapa artística, Gabriel experimentaba con todo aquello que despertara su curiosidad. Fue en el CBA que conoció a una amplia gama de artistas de la posguerra y estableció estrechas amistades. Sus piezas fueron resultado de estas relaciones, de la exploración de la calle y de su negación por el sedentarismo.
Las obras de los años 80 y 90 chocaron con las corrientes de la época, por lo que son consideradas rarezas de los inicios del arte de Gabriel. Son obras de alto contenido cultural, parte aguas de todo su trabajo, recolectoras de las historias de sus primeros encuentros artísticos y testigos de los lugares donde estuvo. "Cronografós" es una obra que radia la creatividad de sus inicios.

His work has been presented in numerous solo exhibitions in MoMA and Guggenheim Museum in New York, Museo Reina Sofía in Madrid, Hirshhorn Museum in Washington and Museo del Palacio de Bellas Artes in Mexico City, among others. He is represented by Mariana Goodman Gallery in New York, Galería Kurimanzutto in Mexico City and Chantal Crousel Galerie in Paris.
He has a rich resume, thanks to his experience, academic and self- taught learning through the years. It all began in his childhood, when his father worked with David Alfaro Siqueiros and took him along in order for him to see how they painted murals, little Gabriel listened and observed everything that happened, introducing himself to the arts and political themes. In 1984 he finished his studies in Escuela Nacional de Artes Plásticas, but since all his learning was extremely traditional he decided to travel to Spain to explore art by his own means. He arrived to Madrid in 1986, and between streets Alcalá and Gran Vía he found Círculo de Bellas Artes, a private, non-profit, cultural organization that helped spread the word about the main cultural practices, and the headquarters are now a National Historical Artistic Monument. From this first artistic stage, Gabriel experimented with all that awakened his curiosity. It was in CBA that he met a wide range of post-war artists and stablished close friendships. His pieces were a result of these relations, of his explorations of the streets and his refusal of sedentary life.
Artworks from the 80's and 90's clashed with the production of the time, which is why they are considered rarities from Gabriel's beginnings. They are works with a strong cultural content, a turning point in all his work, collectors of stories of his first artistic encounters and witnesses of the places he visited. "Cronógrafos" is a work that emits the creativity of his beginnings.
